OpenAI acquires Windsurf

OpenAI finally acquired Windsurf for $3 billion. It was in the news for some time now, and I am excited about the acquisition as I am more interested in what OpenAI actually does to improve Windsurf.

Currently, I am mainly using Cursor AI for coding but if Windsurf actually gets improved after the acquisition, I would be very happy to switch. However, I do have Windsurf installed and I do sometimes use it for smaller tasks.

I want OpenAI to make Windsurf better and it shouldn't just keep pushing OpenAI models, but includes all other models that are best for coding. Because at the moment, Claude 3.7 Sonnet and Gemini 2.5 Pro are the best coding models. I have tried OpenAI's GPT-4.1 and O3 but they're not up to the mark as of now.

Also, I learned that OpenAI tried buying Cursor twice before they acquired Windsurf but, I think, Cursor guys didn't want to sell.
